请辨析"pity"和"regret"，请不要狂引用金山词霸或iciba，谢谢！！

pity通常是对某件憾事表示同情；
而regret则表示后悔作了某事或者对即将要做的事情表示遗憾，for instance:regret to tell you that you are fired.

除了PITY 有同情的意思外，其实两个词都表示“遗憾”的意思。只是用法不同而已。

PITY 的用法：

1)It's a pity. . . 用于对可惜或遗憾的事发表感叹，后面常接动词不定式或that从句。e. g.

①It's a pity for us to have wasted so much time. =It's a pity that we wasted so much time.

我们浪费了这么多的时间，真可惜。

②It is a pity that you don't know English. 你不懂英语真是憾事。

(2)同情某人可用be filled with pity for sb. , feel pity for sb. 和have/take pity on sb. 表示。e. g.

He is filled with/feels pity for the poor.
(类似He has/takes pity on the poor. )
他同情穷人。

(3)It's thousand pities+(that-clause)意为“最不幸的是，万分可惜的是”。e. g.

It's thousand pities that the little hero was killed.
那位小英雄牺牲了，真是万分可惜。

(4)What a pity+(that-clause)意为太可惜/遗憾了”。e. g.

What a pity you can't go to China with us.
你不能和我们一起去中国真是太遗憾了。
